WHat's The big deal?
We still live in a climate that reflects generational values, diverse perspectives and assumptions about girl's ability and their physiological differences in comparison to boys. -Hunsinger Benbow
Co-ed play is also made out to be a big deal because many are stuck on the belief that there are too many physical differences between males and females that put the females at a disadvantage and at a higher risk for injuries. However, “there's a paternalistic attitude and belief that girls getting hurt is worse than boys getting hurt. When anybody gets hurt, it's a problem.” Regardless of whether or not girls are truly at a higher risk for injuries, it still doesn’t take away from the fact that boys still get hurt, and it’s still a problem. And perhaps these gender differences are not based upon factual information, but are derived, rather, from faulty methods, illogical conclusions, and using very small sample studies. Most importantly though, the articles that support the similarities are most often the ones that go unpublished.
