Negative Effects of Gender Segregating Sports
Women receive lesser recognition:
Women’s sports simply are not as popular as men’s sports, therefore women will never receive the same amount of recognition that a male athlete would even if she puts in as much time and effort and he does.
Women receive lesser compensation:
Since women's sports aren't as popular as men’s, naturally, the money is in men’s sports. Women’s sports are not money makers, and neither are women athletes.
Women receive lesser treatment:
Women rarely, if ever, get to experience the luxuries of hotel accommodations on nights before home games, travelling via charted jet, high-tech video and digital display equipment in their locker rooms, and being coached by someone whose salary is higher than the university’s president.
In 2012, Kevin Garnett earned $21 million per year, not including any endorsements. Tamika Catchings earned $4 million over her entire career including endorsements. She earned the league maximum of $105,000 per season which is $300,000 than the league minimum for the NBA.
